Your path to Pilates starts here! This first mini session starts gently as I guide you through mobilising your spine and focussing your awareness. Grab a small block or a cushion before you press play.
Let’s hone our awareness, and build on the gentle spine movements we met last time (1.1). You’ll need that small block or cushion.
In this final spine-focused session we build on what we’ve learned and find new movements. Hopefully you’ll finish feeling freer, lighter and more awake! Use the small block or cushion.
Let’s shift focus. We’re using the resistance band to mobilise our hips and stretch the surrounding muscles, while building on the movements from last time.
We’re stretching with the resistance band again, and also firing up the deep muscles that stabilise our hips. This may bur a little, but we’ll go gradually.
Let’s go with this combination of mobilising and strengthening hip work. Remember, to get the most from this session complete sessions 2.2 & 2.3 first. No props needed.
Let’s rethink the idea that core strengthening equals hundreds of sit ups! In this session we’re utilising breath to find stability from deep in our centre. You need a small Pilates ball (we use this a lot from here on).
Ok, we’re challenging our core stability a little. Make sure you’ve completed and mastered the first Core session (3.1) before trying this. You need your small Pilates ball.
Our movements start to get a little juicier here! If you’ve followed in sequence, notice how far you’ve come. See if you can really tune here in and embody the detail, that’s where the challenges are. You need your small Pilates ball.
This session is a treat for tired, tight shoulders! Perfect if you spend a lot of time desk-bound or driving. Unlike the other sessions (which are best completed in sequence) this is a lovely stand alone practice to reset your posture, anytime. Use a 90cm foam roller if you have one. If not, roll up bath towel or sheet instead.
Here we’re focussed on building overall strength in the upper body, so make sure you’ve mastered the previous sessions, including session 4.1 before this. We’re using a 90cm foam roller (or a rolled up towel alternative).
Today we’re combining movements in a more challenging, flowing sequence. Pay attention to the options on offer and choose challenges that feel appropriate for where you’re at. No props needed for this one.
We’re turning our attention to posture. Let’s decompress the spine and see if we can stand a little taller. No props needed.
Let’s combine our movement skills to organise ourselves in an upright alignment. If you’re not comfortable sat on the floor, sit on a block, cushion or chair. You need your small Pilates ball.
Let’s keep gathering movements, finding space and opening our posture using the small Pilates ball.
This short, stand-alone sequence is ideal if your feet are feeling stiff from a change in footwear, a big night out or walk. On a city break? Mid wedding season? You need this! Dig out a resistance band and give it a go.
We’re really working into our foot and ankle mobility here, which isn’t super comfortable, but so important for building the strong, agile base we need to move well. Grab your small Pilates ball and go for it!
In this last of our balance sessions we are dialling up the challenge so have fun with it! You’ll need: a spiky ball/tennis ball or anything similar.
Let’s start bringing our mini sessions together. This flowing floor-based sequence revisits our spine and hip movements. No props required, just you and the mat.
Let’s bring together our core and shoulder focussed practices in this compact 12 minute mini class. No props needed, just you and the mat!
Your final step on your Path to Pilates! In this session we’re revisiting your posture and balance exercises in one flowing sequence. Reflect on how you feel in your body. What will your next challenge be? You need the spiky ball / tennis ball one more time.
